Jonatan Arias, Applied AI & Forward Deployed Engineer

forward deployed  /  applied ai engineer

I build the systems that make the work run

Give me a messy operation and I will go learn how it actually runs, then build the software and AI that run it better. Eleven years inside heavy manufacturing at Eaton, shipping the test systems, platforms and plant connectivity that high-volume production depends on. Now also a solo practice putting production LLM systems in front of real customers. Bilingual, English and Spanish. more about me →

Senior engineer who ships end to end and owns the full arc: discovery, design, build, deploy, verify. My edge is pairing real domain and process expertise with modern AI. At Eaton I build the C# test software, SQL web platforms, and Industry 4.0 connectivity behind high-volume manufacturing. Through my own studio I design and run production LLM systems for small businesses. I move fast from an ambiguous problem to a working system, and I document how the work runs before I automate it. more about me →

what i am looking for

let's build something that runs on its own

Forward-deployed and applied-AI work where the problem starts messy, in someone's real operation, and ends as a system people actually use. If that is the job, I would like to hear about it.

about me

engineer, builder, dominican

I grew up and trained in the Dominican Republic, spent eleven years at Eaton growing from a technician to a senior engineer, and in 2025 moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Along the way I started Alejo Automations to build the kind of AI systems I believe every small business will need.

I like problems that start messy and end as something that runs on its own. I document how the work really happens, then build the software and AI that make it faster, clearer, and more reliable. I care about craft, I ship, and I follow through.

Outside of work I am married (since 2024), a devoted Los Angeles Lakers and Formula 1 fan, and happiest cooking, exploring a new place, or around a table of friends with dominoes and good conversation.

how i lead

four principles

I led a test department, a $6.5M+ capital portfolio, and the standard that decides who is qualified to test. Four principles, each learned by doing it badly first, tagged to the Eaton Leadership Model capability it sits under.

the model i was trained in

the competence ladder

from the apprentice standard i own

I replaced "attended training" and a witnessed signature with an objective, four-level bar. The top rung is not expert, it is coach: you are not finished until you can make the next person independent.

level 1observed
level 2assisted
level 3independent
level 4coach

digital mindset

elm · the fourth capability

The one ELM capability I took furthest, until it became a company. The rule: you cannot improve what you have not measured, so I map how the work really happens, then digitize it once. Four things I took from analog to a running system:
